Phishing - A new attack technique to steal your confidential information

Phishing attack use spoofed emails to direct consumer to spoofed websites to steal consumers' personal identity data and financial account credentials. Phishing is a relatively new phenomenon, but it is already viewed as an important security problem. Phishers are becoming more sophisticated in their deception techniques to lure consumers to spoofed websites, as most consumers cannot determine which is a valid site and which is a fake. However, consumers don't have to know all for the phishing and actually enter confidential information on a phishing websites to be compromised. Keeping security tips in mind can significantly protect you from phishing attacks.

1. Do not click a URL link in the email from a person you don't know.Besides being directed to fraudulent websites, by simply clicking on a phishing URL, the site can install spyware, such as a malicious keylogger, on the consumers' computer which has the ability to capture data such as network passwords or social security numbers without their knowledge.

2. Always check site certificate before you entering important personal identity data and financial account credentials. A Web site certificate states that a specific Web site is secure and genuine. It ensures that no other Web site can assume the identity of the original secure site. When you are sending personal information over the Internet, it is a good idea to check the certificate of the Web site you are using to make sure that it will protect your personally identifiable information. When you are downloading software from a Web site, you can use certificates to verify that the software is coming from a known, reliable source.
